Real Hoodia is hard to find, despite all of the advertisements you can see online. The fact of the matter is, and most unbiased sources agree, that there is not enough real Hoodia Gordonii on the entire planet to fill all of the orders being placed for it. So people selling it have found ways to fill in the gaps between supply and demand for real Hoodia in order to turn maximum profits. One of these methods involves selling another plant from the Hoodia family other than real Hoodia Gordonii. This enables them to advertise their product as Hoodia but fill it with a plant which is useless for appetite suppression, and do it at a fraction of the cost. It is mostly Chinese companies who do this because one of the similar plants grows in China, but there is no real Hoodia Gordonii being produced in Asia. The only company in the world with the legal right to grow real Hoodia is Phytopharm, and the only place they are doing it is in South Africa. If the supplement or spray does not come from a company which can show you a CITES certificate from the South African government, then they are almost definitely not selling real Hoodia.
The hoodia cactus (actually hoodia succulent) has been used by the Sans Bushmen of the Kalahari for centuries. In addition to being an appetite suppressant the Bushmen also believe the hoodia cactus to be a cure for among other things: stomach cramps, hemorrhoids, diabetes and high blood pressure. While this is most likely not the case, in fact it is hard to imagine that centuries ago they could even understand the causes and treatments for diabetes and hypertension, it is hard for anyone who has ever eaten the hoodia cactus or taken a hoodia extract to argue that it does not have an amazing effect on hunger. After ingesting a small amount of the hoodia cactus it is very difficult to picture eating anytime soon, or at least anything sizable. This is of course why the hoodia cactus has gotten the attention of the Western World, because it might be the best treatment for obesity to come along in the past fifty years. Unlike the appetite suppressants that preceded it, hoodia is not a stimulant and does not have any adverse side effects. The hoodia cactus is a great diet aid for those looking to overcome obesity and those who want to lose just a few pounds alike.
The Hoodia cactus is found deep within the Kalahari Deserts of South Africa. At first glance, the Hoodia cactus does not appear to be anything particularly special, just some ugly little plant in the middle of the barren plains. This is probably how the Hoodia cactus was missed for so long, but in this weird little member of the aloe family may lay the secret to easy weight loss. Hoodia is a natural appetite suppressant, but not a stimulant. The Hoodia cactus can take away hunger, as the local tribes here discovered long ago, but have no side effects. This is exactly what makes the Hoodia cactus so appealing, because almost all appetite suppressants have harsh side effects and negative health effects. The Hoodia cactus has also offered a ray of hope to the Sans Bushmen, who are a desperately impoverished people. For every ounce of Hoodia cactus sold the Sans Bushmen receive royalties which help them rebuild their shattered society.
